Our Board of Directors is committed to overseeing care for the entire community.
My 30-year career has been spent in the accounting and financial management field. I am currently the CFO of Bolthouse Properties, a family office that manages the real estate assets for the Bolthouse Family and other select clients. Before that, I served as the CFO at Jim Burke Ford, a large automotive dealership, and prior to that CFO of Lightspeed Systems, a software company. I started my career at Bolthouse Farms, one of the world’s largest carrot companies. I was able to hone my skills by obtaining the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and CMA (Certified Management Accountant) certifications as well as an MBA.
On a personal level, I am a fourth generation Bakersfield native and married to Cari and have two boys, Ethan and Caden.
Throughout my career, I have had the fortune to serve multiple organizations on the board of directors and in other capacities. I was interested in the opportunity to serve on the board at Clinica Sierra Vista because of the opportunity to join them at a unique time of organizational renewal. Also, their mission and vision meet a huge need in our community. If someone doesn’t have good health, their ability to improve or even maintain their life is severely curtailed. Also, the board wanted additional finance and accounting skills on the board so that is a good fit. Joining CSV’s board gave me the ability to be part of this outsized impact and join an outstanding board and executive team to further its mission to help touch needy people.
I am originally from Sahuayo, Michoacan, Mexico. I migrated to the agricultural community of San Juan Bautista in Northern California and two years later, in 2001, I participated in the immigration program and moved to Bakersfield. For this reason, it is a great pride for me to be a member of the board of directors of Clinica Sierra Vista, where we work to guarantee and improve a better health system, worthy of our community.
I was asked about serving on the board of directors and although I heard of Clinica Sierra Vista (Clinica) through TV and signage, I had no clue about Clinica’s impact in the community and to the underserved. So, I investigated Clinica and almost instantly knew it would be an honor to serve.
Clinica serves the community, particularly the underserved. It is composed of passionate employees. This passion to serve resonated with me because I have always wanted to help my community from becoming a police cadet for the City of Los Angeles and helping at various community events, whether handing out food baskets to closing down streets for community parades. Now as an immigration attorney, I continue to help underserved populations of immigrants, including military family members, helping individuals living with HIV/AIDS through the AIDS Legal Referral Panel, and by appointment through the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal Pro Bono Panel.
My service on the Clinica board allows me to continue to serve at a whole different level and in a completely different environment. I believe everyone should serve in areas they would have never considered. Serving on the Clinica board, and as the Treasurer, allows me to have a fascinating insight on how best to guide financial resources in the host of services provided by Clinica. Recently, I went out with the Street Medicine crew, led by Dr. Beare, and I can tell you it was a humbling experience that truly expresses the passion of the staff in the service of others. Street Medicine ensures everyone, no matter where they are in life, is treated with dignity. The Street Medicine team underscores the many reasons that serving on the Clinica board is so fulfilling. Clinica’s staff is doing God’s work!
I have worked as a Registered Nurse in Kern County since 1988 and have seen the effects of health disparities and chronic diseases that are so prevalent in Central California. During several years working at Kern County Public Health, I frequently worked with Clinica Sierra Vista in a variety of programs and with various health issues. I have always been impressed and interested in the work done by Clinica. Clinica Sierra Vista’s mission aligns with my own passion: to serve the underserved and find solutions to health problems in our community. I am honored and humbled to serve on this Board of Directors. I strive to use my healthcare knowledge and experience to help this organization provide effective, quality healthcare.
My name is Enrique Sahagun,
It all started because of my parents who always fought hard to be able to have bread on the table for all their children. My parents always shared how much or little they had with those most in need. I admired everything my parents did for all those in need and I wanted to follow in their footsteps. Although I did everything I could, it wasn’t enough. I came to Oxnard, California in 1989 to be able to help my parents and brothers in Mexico. For that reason I want to continue helping the community as I see that there is a lot to do to be able to help. And through Clinica Sierra Vista one learns to be able to guide or tell the community what services the Clinica Sierra Vista offers, to which there are many and I am amazed because I did not know about all their help and through that I share with my It is family, friends, co-workers and neighbors that Clinica Sierra Vista has many things to offer. I thank Clinica Sierra Vista for allowing me to be an active member of the Board of Clinica Sierra Vista because it allows me to continue with the project that my Parents taught me. PS Many thanks to all the participants from across the Board for serving the community.
My current role is the Department Chair of the Accounting and Finance Department at California State University, Bakerfield (CSUB). In addition, I have served on the Institute of Management Accountants Global Board of Directors for five years; and I serve on the board of CalCPA Bakersfield Chapter as the Vice President. I am honored to serve as a director on the CSV board and am deeply passionate about supporting the healthcare community.
