Robbie Gerds was a devoted and cherished member of the Clinica Sierra Vista Board of Directors since 1997. It is with a heavy heart that we have learned of her passing this week at 90 years of age. Robbie dearly loved this organization and supported our mission through action. Who we are, and what we are working to become is a tribute to the work she did with our board over the past 25 years.

“Robbie was an amazing person who was always committed to helping so many of our patients and the community. She will be seriously missed and leaves a big void,” says Clinica Sierra Vista Interim CEO Dr. Olga Meave. “Her strong personal commitment to our work is evident by the dedication she brought to her service.” Robbie was one of our most active and engaged board members, and we have valued her thoughtful insight and expertise.

Robbie was a lifelong native of Los Angeles, she graduated from Venice High School and went on to be in the first graduating class of UCLA’s School of Nursing in 1954. She married Donald Gerds in 1956, and had two children, Kathy and Eric. She and Donald lived in Manhattan Beach since 1959.

Robbie worked at South Bay Hospital in Labor and Delivery for many years. She got her MSN at UCLA in the late 1970’s. She taught UCLA, University of Hawaii and CSU Bakersfield. She was passionate about nursing and was always caring for others.

Here are some ways you might qualify:

  • You are pregnant
  • You are breastfeeding a baby who is less than one year old
  • You had a baby in the last six months
  • You have a child who is under the age of five
  • You experienced a loss of pregnancy or had a termination

You also need to think about your family’s income. Here are the monthly income limits for family sizes:

  • 3 Persons: $4,109
  • 4 Persons: $4,957

This income limit is based on 185% of the Federal Poverty Level, and these amounts will be effective from April 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.
