About Abel
Dr. Abel E. Rojas-Parra was born and raised in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, where a strong academic inclination and early exposure to the healthcare field shaped his path toward medicine. His passion was sparked by formative experiences, including visits to the local university library and accompanying his mother during her work at Rady Children’s Hospital. These moments fostered a deep curiosity and compassion that would define his medical journey.
Personal experiences with terminal illness and extensive volunteer work in underserved communities further solidified his commitment to primary care and, ultimately, to the field of addiction medicine—particularly in support of vulnerable and marginalized populations. Dr. Rojas-Parra earned his medical degree from the Autonomous University of Baja California, followed by the completion of his social service in rural Mexico. He then relocated to the United States, where he completed a residency in Family Medicine and a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at UCLA. There, he deepened his clinical focus on optimizing care for older adults, especially those managing polypharmacy and dependencies on substances such as opioids, benzodiazepines, and hypnotics.
Dr. Rojas-Parra currently practices in both outpatient geriatrics and urgent care settings. He remains deeply committed to providing compassionate, equitable care to underserved populations and is actively pursuing additional training in addiction medicine to further enhance the support he offers his patients.
