Building Stronger Foundations for Your Childโs Future
At Clinica Sierra Vista, we believe that the best start in life happens at home. We are proud to introduce East Kern Parents as Teachers (PAT)โa new, voluntary program dedicated to supporting you and your little ones as you grow together.
What is the Parents as Teachers (PAT) Program?

Funded through the Kern County Network for Children using Family First Prevention Services Act funds, PAT is a specialized home visiting and parent education initiative. Participants can remain in the program for up to two years or until kindergarten completion, whichever comes first. Our goal is to provide resources and strengthening support for families with young children, from pregnancy all the way through kindergarten completion, who may be facing challenging circumstances. This program is available to families referred by our partner agency, the Department of Human Services (DHS).
How We Support Your Family
The PAT program is designed to meet your family exactly where you are. We combine an evidence-based curriculum with dedicated case management support to help you navigate the joys and challenges of raising children. Our program features two primary ways to connect:
- Personalized Home Visits: Your dedicated case manager will work with you on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting techniques, and overall family wellbeing.
- Monthly Group Gatherings: Join other local families for monthly activities. These gatherings are a fantastic opportunity for learning, fun, and building a supportive community with parents who understand your journey.
Serving Our East Kern Community
We are proud to operate the East Kern region of this important initiative. Our service area covers the Tehachapi Mountains, Southern Sierra communities, and all areas to the east.
To ensure we are always accessible to you, our case managers are based directly in your community in Ridgecrest and California City.
(Note: While Clinica Sierra Vista operates East Kern PAT, our partner agency, the Henrietta Weill Child Guidance Clinic, operates the program for the Central Kern region.)
