Diagnostic Services
There are two main types of colorectal cancer screening tests: stool-based tests and visual exams (procedures).
Stool-based tests (non-invasive)
Stool tests check your poop for signs of colorectal cancer. You need to repeat this test every 1-3 years.
You collect the sample on your own at home (or in a restroom) using a test kit.
If blood is found on your test, you’ll need to get a colonoscopy to look for the cause of the blood
Colonoscopy
For a colonoscopy, a specialist uses a thin tube with a light and a camera to look inside your rectum and colon. If they find any polyps, they will be removed or sampled to test for cancer cells.
Prior to a colonoscopy, you’ll have to complete a bowel prep. A bowel prep cleans out the colon using medicines or liquids you will drink the day prior to make you poop a lot. It is necessary so the doctor can see the colon during the exam.
